We have been busy coming back to the farm.
This portion will be short since I don’t have
a lot of time or knowledge on this subject.
If you want to find out more information my brother Mr. Rico Cortes
would be a great place to start. You can find his site here.
Anyway, on to the portion!

Terumah is the 19th portion in the annual cycle. It comes from verse 2:
Exodus 25:1-2
And YHVH spoke to Moshe, saying,
2 “Speak to the children of Yisra’el, that they take up a contribution for Me.
From everyone whose heart moves him you shall take up My contribution.
In this portion YHVH lays out the instructions of the Dwelling Place, or Mishkan.
He gives out the exact dimensions of the Ark of the Covenant
and what they need to build it along with the rest of the Dwelling Place.
This portion begins with YHVH telling Moshe
to tell Yisra’el to give a contribution(or offering).
While YHVH commands this contribution, this “Terumah”,
it is to be as the hearts of the people are moved.
He wants all of us. However, He wants us to want to give all to Him.
He’ll take only what we offer, as we are moved to surrender.

In verses 8-9 He tells them:
“And they shall make Me a Set-apart Place, and I shall dwell in their midst.
9 “According to all that I show you –
the pattern of the Dwelling Place and the pattern of all its furnishings –
make it exactly so.
This was to be a set-apart dwelling place.
But YHVH knew that man couldn’t make
anything set-apart, so He gave them perfect instructions.
With those instructions they could build His place to dwell in.
While man cannot do the impossible, with YHVH all is possible!
And YHVH made sure of that.
That is why He gave us these instructions and
then showed us that they were possible to do.

In these chapters as YHVH gives these instructions to them,
I find it very interesting of the different things He asks for and how
when the time comes for this contribution that the children of Yisra’el
have much more then what they needed(Exodus 36:5-7).
YHVH provided above what they needed in Egypt for this reason.
Remember though, this contribution
happens RIGHT AFTER the sin of the golden calf.
I wonder if for the children of Yisra’el that the reason they gave so much is because they felt guilty for what they did and didn’t want YHVH to be mad at them.
I do not know the reason, but that may have been what happened. In any case, YHVH REALLY blessed them and they in turn gave a lot of it back.

There are a lot of cool things I could tell about this portion.
For example there is gold.
The Hebrew word here is “zahab” (zayin-hey-bet).
In addition to being a precious metal, it is a metaphor
in Scripture for the splendor and brilliance of the heavens.
Its root “zahah” means “to be fair” or “to shine”.
Revelation 21:18 states that the New Jerusalem is clean gold like clear glass.
Now, the first letter Zayin means crown,
hey means revelation and bet is House.
Here the goldwould be “our crown of revelation in YHVH’s House”.
I don‟t know about you, but I want a “crown of gold.
There is a lot of other ones I can give but
for this point don’t have a lot of time to do.
Maybe one day I can do more specific things on each one.
Have a blessed Shabbat!
Shalom!
