If we research the history of education, we'll readily see it. Why is it, just 2-3 hundred yrs ago, that "boys" were ambassadors at 15 yrs old? Captains of ships at 18? Owners of businesses in their teens? Being a teenager is a very new invention.
There was no such thing as being a youth in Jeremiah's time. When YHWH told Jeremiah to be a prophet for His truth, Jeremiah gave this excuse in Jeremiah 1:6,
"And said I, “Ah, Master YHWH! See, I do not know how to speak, for I am a youth.”
Then YHWH told Jeremiah something that we as teens need to remember,
"Jer 1:7 And YHWH said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ but go to all to whom I send you, and speak whatever I command you.
Jer 1:8 “Do not fear their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares YHWH.
Jer 1:9 Then YHWH put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and YHWH said to me, “See, I have put My words in your mouth.
Jer 1:10 “See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the reigns, to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”
We must remember always that we are not youth. In Israel when you turn 13 you become men and women. Not teens that are in the 'middle age' that can do whatever they want. We must be young men and women, ready to serve Him in WHATEVER He wants US to do.
"Boys" were men and "girls" were women early on because they weren't cooped up in classrooms being artificially surrounded by 30 other kids their same age. They were homeschooled mostly, helped their father in his business or on the farm, girls helped their mothers with the house and their siblings, they learned real life skills, learned how to solve real life problems by watching their parents, and they were around adults so they learned to emulate adults, not another kid.
If it TRULY was about education, our system would be totally different. Truly.
The most important thing is that a young man can work and support a family. A young woman needs to be able to keep a home and understand her responsibilities as a wife. We need to be firmly grounded in their faith. And as Yahshua was still under the authority of His parents at age 12 even while teaching in the Temple, we are just that, YOUNG and we need the wisdom of our parents and remain under their authority until we truly do reach maturity. Let us be a light to others by being obedient to our parents!
