There are some basic truths and lies in the raising of our children. We are going to discuss the lies first.
Teens are rebelious
Teens need to hear Scripture in a fun-entretaiment way
Teens will grow out of their disrespect
Teens need their own identity and space
We consider these statements as lies from the enemy. For generations Hasatan has worked to weaken YHWH's authority over His children. The enemy knew that if he could take the authority of the parents the children had no spiritual shepherds. There is a intent of separation (death) that was started in the garden. There is a lie given to generations before us that changed the way children honor their parents. Why? Because if we break a commandment we brake all. Let's see;
Exodus/Shemoth 20:12 "Respect (Honor) your father and your mother, so that your days are prolonged upon the soil which YHWH your Elohim is giving you.
Look at Isaac laying in obedience to Abraham and YHWH as a sacrifice. Joseph had a heart for his father Ya'acob/Yisra'el and a relationship with YHWH even among the Egyptians. Daniel did not defile his body with the sovereign's food and did not bow to him nor the image Nebukadnetstsar made. Daniel's conversations which the king as he examined him and his friends were found 10 times better than the magicians and astrologers of his reign. Daniel was delivered and found beauty or favour in YHWH's eyes. He was taught to honor his Elohim and to take care of his body as a testimony to Yah.
Yeshua marveled the Rabbis while He was only 12 as He spoke much wisdom in the synagogues.
I remember the stories of my Serfadic grandfather and although son of conversos they spoke only stories that honor their parents. They had no shoes, had to work in the sugar cane fields and tabaco by the age of 14. Our children would think we are unfair if we send them to work hard labour or even dress them with poorly clothing. His upbringing was to honor his parents. Later he sat down with governors and high ranking officials. Not because he was smart and had degrees but because YHWH saw that he honor his parents. I seek for that character in them.
What is the model of biblical raising of children?
Every Child started Torah studies at the age of 3
Scripture memorizaton was an integral part of life and studies.
Memorization of prayers connecting them with YHWH with daily common activities. Wake up, wash hands, eat, lay down.
Every man was shown how to bring offerings to YHWH and boys and fathers will participate in such during the feasts.
Numbers 15:39-41 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of YHWH, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your Elohim. I am YHWH your Elohim, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am YHWH your Elohim.
The fear of YHWH is the beginning of all wisdom.(read post below Shema Yisra'el Young men and women of YHWH are wise becuase of the repect they have for the authority of YHWH over their lives. They obey, respect and honor according to their love for Yah. There is a statement that defines the relationship in our family. If Papa is following the instructions of YHWH then by following and honoring Papa we are showing that we love YHWH our Abba. I again say Shema Yisra'el... Remember Shema meaning "Hear and Obey"
Deut 6:5-7 You shall love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you today shall be upon your heart. You shall teach them thoroughly(diligently, Impress them) to your children, and you shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you rise.
What were these words that YHWH commanded us to teach our children? What was so important to YHWH that He said that we must teach them dilligently, impress, thoroughly. The whole chapter 5 . Indeed the whole Torah but we have little time and space here.
The Ruach led me to the definition of impression;
Impression (definition) To press, stamp, or print something in or upon;to mark by pressure,or as by pressure;to imprint(that which bears the impression).
Do our children know what honors us? We must ask them what they think honors us and show our love for YHWH. Acountability is important. We must teach them that love, honor, respect, belief, ect in Hebraic teachings of our walk are shown by actions and not knowing like we taught them in the Greek church. YHWH asked Adam and Hawwah, Who told you, you were naked? The same we see when YHWH confronted Qayin; And why is your face fallen?
We are to test, talk, ask tough questions; like if a boy or a girl ask you for a kiss, or offer you a drink or a smoke. I have many diferences of parents that drink, that would try to tell their children that is bad for them to do something that they do. Studies show that divoced parents produce children that are highly likely to be divorced, the same goes with drugs, lawbrakers, alcoholic, abusers, ect. An apple tree can not give oranges. We need to press the issues, to role play the conversations a teen of wordly influence or group pressure might have with them. We must lead by example. Many families specially homeschoolers and Torah Observant have set the bar higher and as we seek to share with other families we run the risk of mixing our seed with of those that just left the world or the building that may not have any values impressed in them. Just as Adam was to guard the garden we must guard our children. Not becuase we want to control them but becuase we fear YHWH and His commandment to diligently impress His comands to our children and becuase they are an inheritance unto Him. Our children must be Set Appart as Mashiach is Set Appart, they are His bride also and must remain without spot or blemish. I tell my boys, guard your eyes, and ears because the enemy is like a roaring lion looking who to devour. The enemy comes playing nice, fun and as a friend. Pray even before you play video games becuase the background music may lure you to evil thoughts. We screen their internet use, their emails, their conversations; yes, we know it seems hard but as we do our job their actions will reward us and bless our hearts.
Deuteronomy 5:29
Oh, that they had such a heart in them, to fear Me, and to guard all MY commands, allways, so that it might be well with them and with their children forever!!
Some families have used Salt to imprint in our children that we are the "Salt of the earth" and we also teach them that when the Salt looses flavor "it gets thrown away". This teaching that we use in our Shabbat is taken from Mashiach's teaching in Matthew 5:13. We also know that YHWH made a Covenant of Salt with David.
Matthew 5:13 You are the Salt of the earth, but if the Salt becomes tasteless, how shall it be seasoned? For it is no longer of any use but to be thrown out to be throdden down by men.
Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
What kind of conversations our teens are having with other teens. We see that there is a connection with our walk. Love- Heart, Salt-Mind (conversation), Might- Possesions, Beings, Body. There is an outward sign of what is inside when we dress modestly just as we take care of the Temple inside and outside. The Salt will be "throdden down" if we loose our flavor. By who? By the men(women) of the world. We raise leaders and they become followers by peer pressure. They must be betrothed to Mashiach.
Matthew 5:14-16 You are the Light of the world. It is impossible for a city to be hidden on a mountain. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it shines to all those in the house. Let your light so shine before men, so that they see your good works and praise your Father who is in the heavens.
The light must be seen, it must be an outward apearance. Not hide under a basket. Our light shines before men as a praise unto YHWH. Our modesty and our physical praise that men can see must be an outward expression. How can we be a lapstand in the middle of a worldly crowd if we do not look different? How our youth set appart themselves from the rest of world pagans and Christians? Would you send your child to the front lines of spiritual battle without them being ready? Training in Love understanding the ways of Mashiach and the words of YHWH.
This is just my grain of salt. To impress a conviction and not a judmental legalistic view like the people in the church might say. We love YHWH so much that we are willing to raise children that would turn to be spiritual servants, emissaries, examples to the world. It's never too late we just need a willing heart. Please comment. Shalom!
Proverbs 1:7-10, 15 The fear of YHWH is the beginning of all knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and discipline. My son(or daughter), heed the discipline of your father And do not forsake the Torah of your mother; for they are a wreath on your head , And chains about your neck. My son(or daughter) if sinners entice you, do not give in. v15 My son, do not walk in the way with them, Keep your foot from their path;
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in YHWH with all your heart, And lean not to you own understanding; Know Him in all your ways, And He makes all your paths straight.
