From the day we are born we look to our parents to imitate what they do. Our desire is to be an image of our parents or to do things that they like. As we grow we see that they think that we are a burden or that they like other things more than us. Some of us had parents that where someone in the house and someone else when friends were around. That image stays in us and even negative images become part of us inconsiously. Teens have a battle against the image they have inside their genes and the one that we try to tell them to be like. Early in life all they want to be is like dad or mom and as they grow up we try to put them in a mold of perfection or maybe some other teen. TV, friends, movies, cartoons become a counter image of who they can be like because of the rejection of the image they thought they had in their parents. Biblically we have no image to follow other than Messiah Yahshua Himself to be that image but as we bring children we do not teach them that they have Him as a role model to follow. I had an alcoholic, smoker, abusive dad and guess what; when I got married I became an alcoholic, smoker abusive dad. If we are slaking on the matters of our spiritual walk with YHWH that is the image they see and there is something inside of them that wants to be like the dad that lives with them and not the dad that changes when he is around others. I John 2:4 He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. We have to be Kadosh (Set Apart-Holy). There is no holiness in drinking alcohol other than the ocasional partaking of wine when there is no choice of fruit of the vine when we brake bread. There is no holiness in smoking, dipping, eating unclean, watching TV, ect. When I started rejecting my dad and all those things he did I rejected a Father figure, an authority, rules and guidance with it. Fathers become our protectors, providers, guide, shield and we do not think that when we reject them we must become that. We spiral as we are lost between honoring our father and mother; and following what is right. I became who I rejected because my model was a man that his iniquity, behaviour, manerism, likes and dislikes are so imprinted in me that I had difficulty leaving that to become more like Messiah.
This foundation is built before our children turn 13 and some of them sooner. Dad- Mom; our children are watching every step we take and listening to every word we say. They think we are the image that they must follow and emulate. Do not loose that when they turn to their teens. If you were not succesful or stumbled in life, do not, and I beg you to do not reject when they want to be like the you. Even becuase is our notion that YHWH changed us with all those experiences. Today you are holy so your children can emulate holiness. We are to be Messiah like so our children can be Messiah like. The plan was that through His instructions we became more like He is and our children could follow and walk like He walked not because they had to read it in Scripture but because they saw it in practice. Do not be the father and mother that our teens want to reject but strive to become the most honest Messiah-like child of YHWH you can be. Not because of what others might say, get over it!. Be who YHWH wants you to be so you can be an example for your child. Alcohol, Tobacco,Drugs, Agressive Behavior, Hate, Lies, unmodesty ect are not the image of Messiah and are far from making us Set-Apart. Do not let them choose other role models outside your control. The personalities in Media no matter if they say they are Christians or Messianics are not real and would separate them from us. Ask your child or teen;
What is your favorite person? and go down the list until they mention YOU.
1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, being sober, set your expectation perfectly upon the favour that is to be brought to you at the revelation of יהושע Messiah, as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts in your ignorance, instead, as the One who called you is set-apart, so you also should become set-apart in all behaviour, because it has been written, "Be set-apart, for I am set-apart."
