"Shema Yisra'el!" This is the command that YHWH gave to Yisra'el in Deutoronomy 6:4,
“Hear(Shema), O Yisra’el: יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one!
We are commanded to hear. But not just to hear. He commands us to obey in the same word! Shema means not just to hear, but to OBEY and DO what YHWH says. We are commanded to obey YHWH's instuctions and guidelines. And for me, it is such a blessing to do as my King commands, not just to say, "ok, I'll do it.", without heart. Because even if you do it and your heart isn't right with Him, then it is like you never did it. As Yahshua said in Matthew 15:8,
"This people draw near to Me with their mouth, and respect Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me."
Although Ya'aqoḇ was the first to be called by the name “Yisra'el,” we often read of Aḇraham being the father of Yisra'el. Elohim reveals to us how and why Aḇraham qualified to be the father of Yisra'el, for we read in Genesis 26:5,
“Because Aḇraham obeyed My voice and guarded My charge: My commands, My laws, and My teachings.”
Again, when Yisra'ĕl was saved out of Mitsrayim, the land of sin, He laid down His condition for Yisra'ĕl to be His people, as we read in
Exodus 19:5–6,
“If you diligently obey My voice, and shall guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession above all the peoples – for all the earth is Mine – and you yourselves become to Me a reign of priests and a set‐apart nation.”
And for us it is no different, for Yahshua is the embodiment of that same Word, that same Voice, which we need to hear, and obey. Read about this vital necessity of obeying Yahshua – in:
Matthew 7:24–27, Matthew 17:5, Luke 6:46–49, John 3:36, John 14:15, John 15:10, Acts 3:22–23, 1 John 2:3–6, Revelation 3:8–10,
Revelation 12:17, and in Revelation 14:12.
May YHWH bless you and may you "Shema" what He says!!
Shalom!
