Torah Portion last week, but it is real busy here.
Tomorrow is Yom Teruah! So excited for the fall feasts to start.
This year could be especially important if Israel is divided.
May we be watchful this year, and be ready when the trumpet sounds!
The word Ha’azinu (האזינו) literally means “give ear,”
an expression meaning “Listen to this.”
It is also the name of the fifty-third
and second-to-last reading from the Torah.
It is the first word of the Song of Moses, which begins with the words “Give ear (Ha’azinu), O heavens, and let me speak”
(Deuteronomy 32:1).
This Torah portion is only a single chapter long,
and the majority of it consists of the Song of Moses.
The Song of Moses is a prophetic oracle warning Israel about
apostasy to come and the resulting wrath of Elohim.
The song looks far into the future, even envisioning the
Messianic advent amid rich and frightening apocalyptic imagery.
After the conclusion of the song, Moses is told to ascend
Mount Nebo and overlook the Promised Land before dying.
This chapter uses the word "rock" 7 times,
5 of which are capitalized, talking about YHVH.
5 in Hebrew is the letter "hey", which means "to reveal".
And clearly in this chapter Moses and YHVH
are revealing the future of Israel in these verses.
This chapter has a very prophecy type tone to it, and it is exactly what happened later on in history. They started out by obeying YHVH, YHVH blessed them, they went into disobedience, and then YHVH punished them. It happened just as He said. Israel should of known not to, but they were too stubborn, just like YHVH said.
YHVH didn't do this because He wanted to. He did it because He is holy. He did it because light cannot walk with darkness. He did it so that other generations could see what they did and not make the same mistake.
Let us not make the same mistake!
The half-Torah Portion on the other hand has a very different feel.
In 2nd Samuel 22 Kind David has a song that he gives to YHVH.
Unlike the song of Moses, this song is thanking YHVH for saving Him.
The one thing that is similar between these 2 songs?
It uses the word "rock" 5 TIMES, talking about YHVH!
It is clearly an amazing thing. In Moses's song, He is revealing the future of Israel when they disobey, but in David's song, it is revealing
YHVH's salvation(Yahshua) when they repent. What an amazing sight!
If we do sin, and we do disobey His commands,
we still have an opportunity to repent.
If we do repent, YHVH promises that He will save us.
Thank YHVH, for He is good: His MERCY endures FOREVER!!
Shalom!
